Widgets

Widgets give you immediate, easy access to special Bible App functions — such as Verse of the Day, Verse of the Day Images, your Plan days for today, etc. — by allowing you to place them directly on your device’s home screen.

Widgets behave differently on Android and iOS devices, and they offer different options. Widgets are not available on Bible.com.

Add a Widget

Android:

  1. Home screen: Long-press and hold on any empty space.
  2. Select Widgets.
In the next step, place your widget carefully. Widgets take up more space on your screen than apps do. When you drop a widget, it may displace apps around it in ways you do not expect.
  3. Long-press on the widget you want,
drag it where you want on your Home screen,
    then drop it.
  4. If available: Select your widget’s options,
    then select Save.

iOS:

Widgets are available on iOS 14 and newer.
  1. Home screen: Long-press and hold on any app or empty space until the apps jiggle.
  2. Top left: Tap +.
  3. Search Widgets box: Type Bible,
    then select Search.
  4. Select Bible.
  5. Swipe to the widget you want.
  6. Select Add Widget.
In the next step, place your widget carefully. Widgets take up more space on your screen than apps do. When you drop a widget, it may displace apps around it in ways you do not expect.
  7. Drag the widget where you want on your Home screen,
    then drop it.
You move widgets around the same way you move apps. Widgets are simply different sizes than apps.
  8. Top right: When you have your widget where you want it,
    select Done.

Resize a Widget

Android:

  1. Home screen: Long-press on the widget you want to resize.
  2. Long-press on any dots at the widget’s edges,

  3. When you finish resizing,
    select anywhere outside the widget.
iOS widgets cannot be resized.

Remove a Widget

Android:

  1. Long-press on the widget you want to remove,
    drag it onto X Remove,
    then drop it there.

iOS:

  1. Long-press on the widget you want to remove.
  2. Select Remove Widget.

Streaks

Streaks encourage you to connect with Scripture every day by showing you how many days in a row you’ve opened the Bible App. Every day that you open the Bible App (even if you’re not connected to the Internet), your Streak increases by 1. (The Bible App measures one day as the 24-hour period between 12:01am and 12:00 midnight in your time zone.)

Your Streak is associated with your free YouVersion account. Every day that you open the Bible App or visit Bible.com, that day counts toward your Streak — as long as you are signed in on that device.
Bible.com:
Streaks only display on Android and iOS devices, not at Bible.com.

Perfect Weeks

Perfect Weeks are an extension of Streaks, encouraging you with the perspective of your long-term progress — even if you happen to break your Streak. A Perfect Week is one 7-day Streak, calculated from Sunday to Saturday, within your time zone. Your Perfect Weeks number is a running, cumulative total of all your Perfect Weeks.

How to Turn on Streaks Reminders

The Bible App can help you remember to connect with Scripture every day (and keep your Streak) by sending you a daily reminder. When you turn on Streaks reminders, if you do not open the Bible App by 7:00pm in your time zone, the Bible App will send you a Push Notification.

Android or iOS:

  1. Make sure you are signed in to your free YouVersion account.
    Here’s how to Sign In
  2. Select ≡ (More),
    Settings,
    Notification Settings,
    Push Notifications.
  3. Top: Select Streaks reminders.
    Bible.com:
If you open Bible.com and sign in to your free YouVersion account, that day will count toward your Streak. However, Bible.com does not display Streaks. And, you cannot turn on Streaks reminders at Bible.com.

…make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect.

Missing Bible Verses?

As you read or listen to the Bible, you may occasionally notice certain passages that do not seem to “match” across various Bible versions. This does not mean that translators or Bible publishers changed or removed verses. It simply means that those texts were translated at different times, with different scholars working on them, potentially even from different source texts. (As just one example, some of the Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in 1947, are older than scrolls that were available to the translators of the King James Bible, whose work began in 1604.)

These minor differences do not alter core doctrines of the Christian faith in any way.

Many of the Bibles that we offer, such as the New International Version and English Standard Version, include annotations that show these translation differences. To toggle these references on Android or iOS, select ≡ (More), Settings (the gear icon), Bible Reading, Cross References. Then, to read the contents of these footnotes, simply select an annotation bubble anytime you see it within the Bible text.

Cross references are always visible at Bible.com.

If you still have questions, you can contact us through our Support Form.

About the Verse of the Day Process

Verse of the Day offers a unique Bible verse for every day of the year, carefully curated by YouVersion’s staff to encourage, inspire, or challenge you.

No Verse of the Day is ever selected to coincide with or correlate to news, nor to express or imply any philosophical, theological, or political position on current events.

On the contrary:

In order to provide a year’s worth of images for Verse of the Day — in multiple languages — we must plan, design, and create each one far in advance of when we intend to release it. Near the end of each year, a small team maps out the entire Verse of the Day calendar for the coming year, assigning a unique Bible verse to each day.

Over the next several months, as our graphic designers complete the multiple images required for each Verse of the Day (one for each language we provide), these images are uploaded into a database. Then, based on the preset schedule, every day at midnight, in each timezone, that day’s Verse of the Day automatically uploads to a server cache. Once that’s happened in the first time zone, there is no way for us to change or cancel that day’s Verse of the Day — because we can’t “pull back” Verse of the Day images from devices that have already downloaded them.

Once again, the purpose of the Verse of the Day is never to comment on current events.

At YouVersion, we believe that pursuing intimacy with God has the power to transform your life. For that reason, we carefully select every Verse of the Day with the specific intention of encouraging, inspiring, or challenging you to continue seeking God every day.
